Used as an antithrombotic and profibrinolytic agent; indicated for the treatment of severe veno-occlusive disease (VOD/SOS) of the liver in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT); acts as an agonist of adenosine receptors (A₁ and A₂) and protects endothelial cells; exhibits antithrombotic, anti-ischemic, anti-inflammatory, and thrombolytic properties without significant anticoagulant effects (minimal bleeding risk); also investigated for thrombotic microangiopathy and other vascular disorders.
