Employed for the cleavage of ethers, esters, silanes and alcohols to form alkyl iodides, as well as for dealkylation/deprotection reactions. Also used as an intermediate in the preparation of other boron-containing compounds and in pharmaceutical, fine-chemical and research applications requiring strong Lewis-acid/iodinating chemistry.
