Wu Wei, born in October 1987 in Dongzhi, Anhui Province, is a Han Chinese, a Communist Party member, and a postgraduate. He currently serves as Chairman and General Manager of Anhui Huaertai Chemical Co., Ltd. (SSE Main Board, stock code 001217), and is the company’s legal representative. As one of the actual controllers of the controlling shareholder, Anhui Yaocheng Investment Group Co., Ltd., he belongs to the core “Wu family” decision-making circle; his father, Wu Lijie, founded the company and previously served as chairman.
His career path reflects deliberate preparation rather than simple succession. After earning a master’s degree in finance and accounting in the United Kingdom, Wu worked at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, rising to deputy president of a county branch. In 2017 he left banking to join Huartai, determined to share the burden his father had carried since turning around a struggling local plant in 1999. He successively served as board secretary, chief financial officer, and vice chairman, gaining experience across finance, compliance, information systems, and operations.
Early responsibilities tested him thoroughly. Shortly after joining, he led the company’s digital transformation—rolling out OA office automation and upgrading the Kingdee Cloud ERP system so that it covered procurement, sales, equipment, assets, and warehouse management. Within three months the information center was operational; that same year Huaertai obtained the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s “Integration of Informatization and Industrialization” certification. In 2020 he took charge of overhauling the internal-control system to meet listing standards, driving teams through months of round-the-clock work to close gaps and build robust processes. These efforts contributed to Huartai’s successful IPO on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Main Board on 29 September 2021—the first industrial enterprise from Chizhou to list on the main board—raising approximately RMB 860 million.
Appointed chairman in June 2024 (and later concurrent general manager), Wu has guided the company through a period of strategic upgrading. In 2024 he advanced the “Steady, Progressive, Intelligent, Controlled, Preventive, Cohesive” six-character program, helping Huaertai enter the ranks of China’s top 500 petrochemical enterprises by sales and top 500 listed companies in the sector, while securing AEO advanced customs certification. He oversaw the energy-saving and environmental-upgrade project for the synthetic-ammonia gas-production facilities—a technology recommended in national guidelines—and continued to optimize the industrial structure. In capital markets he led the 2025 non-public share offering, directing proceeds toward downstream chain extension. By early 2026 he had clearly oriented the company toward fine chemicals and new materials, accelerating projects such as electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide and BDO (1,4-butanediol).
Innovation remains central. Under his leadership the company has obtained dozens of patents in recent years, including his own contribution as co-inventor of “A Continuous Separation System for Mixed Diamines” (filed April 2026, published May 2026). Product upgrades have lifted value: industrial-grade ammonium bicarbonate commands a significant premium over agricultural grades after impurity removal, while electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide and sulfur trioxide now supply leading semiconductor, photovoltaic, and display-panel manufacturers. Digitalization via IoT has reduced synthetic-ammonia production costs by an estimated 10–15 percent. Talent development through mentoring programs has cultivated skilled “Huaertai craftsmen.”
Wu balances enterprise leadership with public service. As a member of the Chizhou Municipal CPPCC he has submitted proposals on logistics infrastructure for economic development zones and broader public-service support for industrial parks. He has supported poverty-alleviation consumption programs, education donations, and pandemic-relief efforts. His contributions earned him the Anhui May 1st Labor Medal and the Anhui Youth May Fourth Medal in April 2025, selection as a 2025 Hurun U40 China Entrepreneurial Pioneer, and recognition as an outstanding young entrepreneur of Anhui.
Colleagues and local leaders describe a pragmatic, low-key executive who spends long hours in the central control room, on production floors during overhauls, and in market visits. He often quotes the maxim “A road is near yet untraveled; a task is small yet undone,” and has shared the phrase “As long as we start catching up, we are already on the road to winning.” At the 2025 annual summary meeting and subsequent 2026 New Year events he stressed green, high-end, intelligent development, risk control, and the need to consolidate the “14th Five-Year Plan” gains while laying foundations for the “15th.”From a near-bankrupt local plant to a listed fine-chemicals and new-materials enterprise, Huaertai's trajectory continues under a second-generation leader who insists on being a “founder of the next chapter” rather than merely an heir. Wu Wei's combination of operational grounding, digital and financial expertise, strategic focus on higher-value products, and civic engagement positions both the company and the young chairman himself for sustained progress on the road he has chosen.
