Key intermediate/building block for pharmaceutical synthesis, particularly for Nolatrexed dihydrochloride (a non-competitive thymidylate synthase inhibitor with antitumor activity, Ki = 11 nM against human enzyme, Phase III clinical trials for liver cancer). Also undergoes Baeyer-Villiger reaction with monoperphthalic acid or potassium persulfate-sulfuric acid to generate two isomeric products: 5-bromo-6-methyl-1H-benzo[1,3]oxazine-2,4-dione and 5-bromo-6-methyl-1H-benzo[1,4]oxazine-2,3-dione.
